Speed humps - costs

Effectiveness:

The most effective form of speed reduction. Speed reductions of around 10 mph can be expected (depending on the initial speed).

Cost:

£1000 (simple pre-made hump) - £10,000 (custom constructed speed table)

Points to note:

- Can be noisy especially where HCVs are involved
- Require advanced slowing down features
- Street lighting must be in place
- Bus companies and emergency services generally object unless speed cushions can be provided
- Road humps can only be used where the speed limit is 30mph or less
